2018… new year, new goals, new ideas, new start, and new resolutions. Now that we are about half way through January, it’s a great time to check in on how your New Year’s Resolutions are coming along.
Here are a few tips on making sure that your keep up with your 2018 goals:
Did you make a crazy difficult resolution that now seems impossible to keep up with? Sometimes we go a little too big and create unrealistic expectations for ourselves when a new year comes along. Take some time to sit down and re-evaluate where you’re at with your resolutions.
Were they too outrageous? Sometimes we make too difficult of goals for ourselves and have trouble meeting them so we tend to just give up. Don’t do that! Just scale them back a little. It’s ok to adjust your resolutions into more realistic goals once you’ve realized what is actually doable and what it not.
Were your resolutions too easy? On the other hand, sometimes we make goals that end up being too easy to meet so we just forget about them. If this is the case, ramp it up a little. You have to find the perfect balance so that there is some motivation to keep up with the goal, but not too tough to where it is unattainable and causes frustration.
Share your resolutions with your family and friends! You may even find that some of them have similar resolutions and you can work on them together and motivate each other. Having someone to share your struggles and successes with makes your journey to achieving your goals that much easier and less intimidating.
If you start to fall behind on your resolutions, don’t beat yourself up! Remember that minor missteps when attempting to reach your goals are completely normal and totally OK! Don’t give up on yourself if you have a bad day. Take time to refocus and start at it again. This may happen several times on your journey to reaching your goals and it’s totally fine. Believe in yourself and you’ll get to where you want to be!
