In the age of polypharmacy, many patients present with—quite literally—page-long medication lists. Many commonly prescribed systemic medications can affect the eyes and visual system, with adverse effects ranging from mild dryness to blindness.1 As primary care doctors for the human eye, optometrists often find themselves on the frontlines of health care.

As we all know, many of your patients will present with a list of medications that they are currently taking to manage their health conditions, and many of those medications can have significant ocular side effects.
