How amazing would it be if you could regenerate your own, natural, crystalline lens after cataract surgery?! Researchers in San Diego and China have been working on a surgical procedure that could stimulate endogenous lens epithelial stem cells to grow and form a new lens within the original lens capsule following cataract surgery.
Procedures have already shown promising results in animals and young humans as compared to the current standard of care treatment. With cataracts being the leading cause of blindness around the world, this new research has incredible potential for a new safe and effective way of managing vision loss associated with cataracts!
