What Optometry Students Should (and Should Not) Wear to Clinic

Most optometry schools will provide incoming students with some general dress code guidelines for clinic, and in some cases, standards for even just attending classes. The most important reason for a dress code is to ensure that students are presenting themselves in a professional manner as they are a not only a representation of the school, but of the profession of optometry as well.

Most optometry students are not used to dressing in this manner on a daily basis, so it may take a little time and experimenting with different clothing and shoes options to find that perfect balance of professionalism and comfort. Most of you 4th year students have either recently made the transition to your final rotation site, or are about to change locations within the next few weeks. Your last rotation site is going to be expecting a lot from you.

You are getting closer and closer to graduation and becoming a doctor, and with that comes a lot of responsibilities. You will need to feel comfortable making complex medical decisions on your own, and you will need to be confident as an eye care provider when presented with tough patients.
