By the time you’re actively studying for NBEO^® Part 1, you’ve probably already figured out the study methods that work best for you and the ones that don’t.

Since the pool of information is a lot larger than standard course examinations, you may want to consider changing things up in order to study more effectively.

The most effective strategy I’ve encountered for this type of exam is called Active Recall.

Thinking of when to start studying for NBEO ® Part 1 is very overwhelming. Sometimes it feels too early to start since not all courses have been completed, but other times it feels like it’s too late. If you feel like you’re running behind on officially studying for NBEO ® Part 1, here are my thoughts and insights on how I would do it. 

It’s time for NBEO^® Part 1 ABS – are you ready? Studying for the exam is nerve-racking on its own, preparing for the logistics shouldn’t be. Here’s some information on what to expect on test day, including some COVID-19 related updates regarding testing at Pearson VUE test centers.

When you register for Part 1 ABS, you will get a confirmation email from Pearson VUE with information about the exam and scheduling. The exam consists of two sessions, four hours each. Each session consists of 185 items and the items are randomized and in no particular order. The first session also provides a 15 minute tutorial on how to navigate the program as well as an NDA agreement. There is an optional 45 minute break between session 1 and 2. Though this break is optional and you can begin the second session right after the first, It’s a good idea to take a meal break and rest before conquering the second half.

With NBEO Part 2 coming up quickly, and Part 1 shortly thereafter, we've come up with some quick tips to keep in mind to help you conquer multiple choice exams.

Hello OptoPrep Friends! It sure has been a busy year here at OptoPrep. As the year comes to a close, we have enjoyed reflecting on the exciting happenings of the year and are inspired while we plan even more new and exciting things for 2018!

As you are likely aware, the NBEO is changing the format of the Part 1 Applied Basic Science (ABS) examination. The final paper-and-pencil (PNP) version will be administered in August 2016, then to be replaced by the computer-based test (CBT) format beginning in March 2017. In addition to transitioning to a computer-based format, there are a few more differences that you should be aware of. 

After months of studying and preparing for Part 1 of NBEO can you believe that it is finally over?!

All those long days studying at the library without even showering or putting normal clothes on, all those nights you stayed up well into the morning trying to memorize all of the details of the visual pathway, all of those fast food meals you ate because you didn’t have enough time to cook a real meal, and all those opportunities you missed to hang out with your friends and family because you had a study session have finally come to an end! Now how do you feel? Relieved? Tired? Happy? Nervous?

And what are you now going to do with a little extra free time (until the next set of exams comes around)? We’ve come up with a few ideas to help you celebrate and get your life back on track!
